Tom’s “Treme” Hit

April 24, 2010

On Sunday, April 25, I will perform (as myself) on the HBO show “Treme,” playing Jelly Roll Morton’s “New Orleans Joys” and “King Porter Stomp,” in duets with the delectable violinist Lucia Micarelli.  Huge, huge fun doing this.  At some point I will write more about “Treme,” but for now let me thank DJ Davis Rogan for getting me involved and Music Director Blake Leyh for his help with this and other “Treme” related tasks.

Thanks for being involved with this fantastic show. I feel (hope) that Treme is part of our national desire to return to an era of seriousness, showing conditions and traditions in NOLa that go far beyond a casual interest. Food, music, literature, the Indians…so much good information! Having real folks like yourself involved put a stamp of authenticity on this production that could not otherwise be. Cheers

Hi, Tom….Geila and I (Sharon, MA) just returned from 9 days in Cuba, 1/10 – 1/18. We were at the Nacional Hotel in Havana and the Melia in Santiago de Cuba (six cucs per hour for the internet). Our travel group had received a special educational permit so we spent a lot of time visiting schools, watching/hearing children perform plays, music, etc. We heard some good music at the clubs and also some bad music. The current version of the Buena Vista Social Club is outrageously poor.

Anyway, enjoyed reading your journal. We managed to have rock lobster at our final meal in Havana. Otherwise, the triumverate of fish, beef, and pork at every lunch and dinner (with occasional chicken) was dull but bearable.
